We will be heading back to class on August 7th and I decided my new learning adventure will be blogging! So come on along and join me and hopefully you will find some ideas for use in your classroom. Here are a few things that are on my mind for the new year.
Daily 5: I need a plan for more differentiated instruction and I think Daily 5 will be just the ticket. I think I'll start HERE!
MOON Unit: There are so many great resources for a space unit and I got some great new non-fiction books at the end of the year that will be perfect. I'm getting a nice collection of "pins" if you want to check it out here.
Math Shift: To me, the most challenging part of implementing Common Core is the shift in the way we need to be teaching math. One article I read this summer stated that algorithms should never be taught before 4th grade. Wow! I'm glad I have plenty of math manipulatives. We're going to need them! I also plan to introduce multiplication right along with skip counting, namely 1s, 2s, 5s, 10s. Stay tuned to see how that works!
